Frontiers系列期刊是由教育部主管、由高等教育出版社主办和出版、德国Springer公司海外发行的系列英文学术期刊，旨在集中高校科研优势，凝聚国内科研力量，建设一个中国品牌的国际化学术交流平台。

Frontiers于2006年创刊，涵盖基础科学、工程技术、生命科学、人文社会科学众多领域，其中自然科学类16种（含2013年新刊1种），人文社会科学类7种。

系列期刊的学术质量和规范化运作在国际上得到较高认可，已陆续被国际索引评价体系收录，如环境刊、数学刊、物理刊、计算机刊、地学刊和蛋白质与细胞等6种刊物已被SCI收录；计算机刊为Ei核心期刊；化工刊、地学刊被Chemical Abstracts收录；数学刊被Zentralblatt MATH和Math Review收录；医学刊和蛋白质与细胞刊被Medline收录等。地学刊亦被收录为中国科技核心期刊。Frontiers系列期刊中的物理刊、计算机刊和材料刊等15种自然科学类期刊已被CSCD（中国科学引文数据库）核心库收录。

截至2012年底，期刊全文在海外的全年下载总量达到130万篇。
